nurse to help you. Turn on the light over your bed and let your eyes get used to the light before you get up.

If your room is too hot or too cold, let your nurse know. Safety rules prevent us from using heating pads and electric blankets in the hospital, but our nurses have warm blankets for your comfort.

Your Curtains and Room Lighting

You can adjust your curtains and room lighting from the controls on your bed.

Your Family Staying Overnight

Most rooms can accommodate a family member. We are not able to have unattended children stay overnight. You are here because you are not well, and our staff is focused on taking care of patients.

Your Clean and Quiet Room

We want you and your visitors to be comfortable in your room and to provide you with a clean environment. Our staff will clean and pick up your room daily. If it is not satisfactory, please let us know by talking with your nurse. He/she will contact our Environmental Services Department. We also want you to be able to rest peacefully, and it is sometimes hard for us to control noise from equipment within your room, from other patient rooms, or from the hallway. If you find your room is too noisy, please ask for earplugs or for your door to be closed.

Your Meals

If you are on a diet that allows you to select your meal, you can select the Cuisine on Call menu located in your room. When you are ready to order, call ext. 3663 and a Dietetic Assistant will confirm your current diet, take

your order and answer any diet- or menu-related questions you might have. We will modify your selections to fit your specific nutritional needs. Your meal will be delivered to your room within 40–45 minutes. If you prefer not to order your meal, a standard tray will be sent to you at the designated time for the unit you are on.

Personal Care Items

You may bring items with you to make your hospital stay more comfortable and enjoyable. Items you may want to bring include your hairbrush, comb, toothbrush, and toothpaste. Books, magazines, and other reading materials may help you pass the time during your stay.

Dentures, Hearing Aids and Glasses

If you wear dentures, hearing aids, or glasses always put them in a container when not in use. If you don’t have a container, ask your nurse to bring you one and to put your name on it. Dentures and hearing aids stored in labeled containers are less likely to get lost.

Electric Razors and Hair Dryers

If you bring an electric razor or hair dryer, it must have UL or CSA labeling and a three-prong plug. Our Engineering Department may inspect it for safety.

Valuables

Please do not bring any valuables to the hospital. The hospital is not responsible for your personal property. If you find yourself at the hospital with your valuables, give them to a trusted family member and/or friend for safekeeping. If these arrangements are not possible, you may deposit them in the hospital vault. Remember to retrieve your valuables from the vault upon your discharge. Saint Alphonsus is not responsible for lost or stolen property.
