Idaho’s only Advanced
Inpatient Diabetes Program
and Advanced Primary Stroke
Center receive re-certification
from The Joint Commission
Surveyors from The Joint Commission
visited Saint Alphonsus – Boise in Sep­
tember to determine if both the Advanced
Primary Stroke Center and the Inpatient
Diabetes Program met national quality and
safety standards. Te programs, which had
already achieved certifcation as Idaho’s only
recipients of The Joint
Commission’s Gold
Seal of Approval,
demonstrated both
compl i ance and
exceptional quality
of care.
NICU celebrates 10th anniversary
On Aug. 8, Saint Alphonsus’ Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) celebrated
its 10th anniversary. In 2001, hundreds of Associates throughout the Regional Medi­
cal Center celebrated after tending to hundreds of details in the 120 days they spent
preparing to open the unit. Ten years later, they celebrated caring for more than 1,545
of our tiniest patients.
Saint Alphonsus neonatologists are:
• In the top 10 percent nationwide for quality outcomes.
• Involved in research and clinical trials.
• Pioneers in the development of special high­frequency ventilation now used nationwide.
• Improving the survival of the tiniest babies while reducing complications of extreme
prematurity and low birth weight through participation in Pediatrix’s 100,000 Babies
Campaign, which is in 125 hospitals nationwide.
• Instrumental in making Saint Alphonsus NICU length of stay and complication
rates signifcantly lower than the national average, and patient outcomes that exceed
national benchmarks.
Rehabilitation
celebrates
25th anniversary
On Sept. 22, the Regional Medi­
cal Center celebrated 25 years of
services and more than 20,000
patients cared for from our
communities. Te Rehabilita­
tion Unit opened in June 1986
with seven beds. Over the past
25 years, the unit has grown to 45 beds supported by more than 175 nurses, therapists
and support staf. Rehabilitation Services at Saint Alphonsus – Boise hallmarks the
best practice standards of rehabilitation medicine beginning at the bedside of patients
in the Intensive Care Unit and acute hospital nursing units, extending through the
inpatient rehabilitation unit and onward to outpatient and home health services.
Rehabilitation Services is recognized as one of the few rehabilitation facilities in the
Pacifc Northwest with the highest accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation
of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) for General Rehabilitation, Traumatic Brain Injury,
Stroke Rehabilitation and Spinal Cord Injury System of Care Programs.
